Development of Koverhar Harbour
The long-term plan for Koverhar Harbour is to develop the port’s infrastructure to support the execution of offshore wind power projects in the Baltic Sea.
The intention is for the port to be developed into a logistics hub that supports the storage, transport, and installation of wind turbine components. Koverhar’s strategic location makes it well-positioned to serve as one of the key logistics centres for offshore wind power construction in the Baltic Sea.
The development of Koverhar Harbour includes, among other things, deepening the harbour channel and the construction of a new berth, for which the necessary environmental permit has already been obtained. The Port of Hanko has signed a letter of intent with the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, according to which FTIA will carry out a portion of the necessary dredging of the channel. The Port of Hanko, for its part, will build a new berth in the port and is responsible for deepening the water in front of it.
Koverhar Harbour’s wind power plans are related to a letter of intent signed in spring 2025, involving port operator Euroports and the Noatun project companies jointly held by renewable energy company OX2 and the Ålandsbanken Offshore Wind I Fund. The agreement concerns the large-scale Noatun North offshore wind power project planned off the coast of Hanko.
