Cargo operations in the Port of Hanko developed positively in 2025 – despite an uncertain operating environment

The year 2025 continued the economic uncertainty of previous years, but the port’s operations remained stable, and strategically important business areas developed favorably despite the challenging environment.

Traffic and cargo flows

Exports and imports of industrial goods continued to form the most significant share of total traffic. In 2025, the total cargo volume in the Port was 5.4 million tons (+26%).
Cargo exports totaled 3.1 million tons (+31%) and imports 2.2 million tons (+19%).
Exports through the Port included forest and technology industry products, while imports consisted of consumer and capital goods, cars, and industrial and commercial products.

In 2025, the Port of Hanko became Finland’s largest semi-trailer port with just under 200,000 units. Container traffic also increased. Overall unitized cargo traffic grew by +18%.

Due to weak demand, car imports continued to decline in 2025, amounting to just over 70,000 cars (-9%).

In 2026 the Port of Hanko will continue its strategic investments into the future by focusing on customer-oriented, efficient, and sustainable solutions.
