The Port of Hanko has entered the autonomous era

When drones are equipped with technical sensors and artificial intelligence, they transform into tools; but when autonomy is added, they become resources. On Friday, December 12, 2025, we took our first step into the autonomous era with the introduction of the autonomous Skynest system delivered by the Imatra-based company RumbleTools.

The Skynest system provides an AI-based solution that leverages data from a mobile robotic helicopter to monitor the safety, infrastructure, and operations of our port areas. This is a service concept tailored to meet the specific needs of our port. We can operate the helicopter freely according to our needs, but the system can also be programmed with various predefined data collection tasks that it performs either on command or on a scheduled basis. RumbleTools is responsible for the helicopter’s technical operation and also acts as the drone operator towards the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency..

The delivery package also includes the helicopter’s own docking station, where it resides and recharges between flights. While in the dock, the helicopter dries and simultaneously charges to be ready for its next flight.
