Biodiversity action plan for Port of Hanko Koverhar Port taken into use – huge step for sustainable port operations
The purpose of the biodiversity action plan of Koverhar Harbour is to mitigate biodiversity loss and enhance biodiversity within the port area, as well as more broadly in its surrounding environment. Biodiversity is safeguarded and strengthened primarily by minimizing negative environmental impacts.
The port’s environmental permit regulations establish a baseline for practices and measures related to environmental impacts, and the biodiversity action plan complements these with voluntary measures.
The biodiversity action plan identifies the port’s stakeholders and value chain, the qualitative impacts of port activities on biodiversity, and the current state of biodiversity within the port area. The action plan sets targets and specifies concrete actions to be implemented, along with measurable indicators, to mitigate biodiversity loss and ensure and enhance biodiversity.
